Best helmet liner for winter cycling
I have very thick hair and normal winter temperatures down to -10C rarely bring me to the point of putting on a hat. Riding my bike in the winter is a different matter because of the wind chill. But so far no matter what I tried I had the choice of freezing my ears and brains off or cooking slowly to death. This liner is the first that works for me. I'm still not sure what it is that makes it different. I believe Turtle Fur uses two different materials: a thicker fleece for the "headband/ear" section and a thinner material for the top. Whatever it is - it allows for nice and toasty ears (without being too much) and heat ventilation off the top through the helmet vents. I also like that I can fold up the earflaps through/around the helmet straps which allows for additional ventilation (e.g. when climbing). The whole thing is so thin and snug that I only slightly have to adjust my helmet. It also dries quickly. Usually when on a club ride when we're on the customary mid-ride espresso - I make a dash to whatever source of heat there is and plop my turtle fur on it. By the time the espresso + muffin has found its way to my stomach turtle fur is dry again, ready to head back home. That being said: if that for some reason doesn't work

One of the best articles of gear I own
I am an Arborist. I work year round in the trees. I had my first hat for five years. Just received my second and am excited. The old one, which I lost, kept its shape very well after years of daily fall, winter, and spring use. My head and ears still stayed warm, and the canopy regulated the temperature perfectly. Felt just right most times. Also great, you can wear the hat from say 50 - 55 degrees, especially if it's windy, all the way down to say zero with a balaclava. I wear a helmet for nearly eight hours straight. The hat withstood that wear and tear easily. I love the polartec windbloc ring. Even on the windiest winter days, my ears were always nice and toasty. It's funny, the protection provided by the hat felt almost like being in a car on a nasty, windy day. Another great feature is the polyester spandex canopy. It allows excess body heat to escape very rapidly when you get active, yet still provides a good measure of protection from the wind. Sometimes, if it's very cold and windy out, I combine the hat with a balaclava, putting the balaclava over the hat. Works great. If I were to compare all the gear I use to stay dry and/or warm, this hat is at the top of the list. Overall a most amazing creation. Thanks Turtle Fur!!
