Grand Canyon Lodging Review

Grand Canyon Lodging Review
El Tovar is one of the top-rated lodging establishments in the Grand Canyon area. Open since 1905, it is a registered National Historic Landmark, and was remodeled in 2005. The ideal location (right on the canyon rim) compliments the rustic charm and decor. There are over 75 suites and rooms, along with a fine dining room, room service, free parking and a drink lounge.

Wows and Woes

Based off Trip Advisor reviews, El Tovar is the best-rated lodge at the Grand Canyon, mostly because of the views and service. On the downside, prices are expensive, as well as the food, drinks and gift shop; and during the busy seasons the lodge is packed full of tourist, so you have to book months in advance.

Insider Tips

This hotel is not ideal for those who are handicapped, as there are no elevators and only a couple ramps. All rooms are non-smoking.

Bottom Line

El Tovar is a prime location with great service and views, but the prices are expensive and the lodge feels crowded if booking during the winter months.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

It was great to be able to retreat to the room after a day of exploring the area, and order room service while checking out the sunset over the canyon.
