Reviews of The Grand Hotel in Grand Canyon

Reviews of The Grand Hotel in Grand Canyon
The Grand Hotel has 121 Southwestern-styled guest rooms and is located outside of Grand Canyon National Park. It takes about five minutes to go the mile to the South Rim entrance of the Grand Canyon from this hotel. A pool, fitness center and hot tub are available for guest use. The Canyon Star Restaurant and Saloon is the on-site restaurant. Hiking trips and other Canyon excursions can be arranged at the front desk of the hotel.

Wows and Woes

The lobby area of the hotel is nice and offers plenty of seating for guests, Starbucks coffee, free Wi-Fi and a gift shop.

The food at the The Canyon Star Restaurant and Saloon is good, but the prices are a bit expensive compared to other restaurants.

There is only one elevator that accesses the higher floors, which means long waits during the busy season.

The pool is located inside the hotel, and it is incredibly small. Only a few people can comfortably fit in the pool.

Insider Tips

If you are at the hotel on a weekend, check out the lot by the hotel where Navajo Indians sell jewelry and other Native American crafts. The prices are reasonable and the items are distinctive.

If you need a quick lunch for a canyon excursion, the The Canyon Star Restaurant and Saloon sells boxed lunches.

A great Mexican restaurant, a Wendy's and a McDonald's are within walking distance from the hotel.

Bottom Line

The 2009 average rate of $130 to $200 is good, if you do not mind having to drive a mile to reach the Grand Canyon.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

After an early morning and long day in the park, it was a relief to see that the The Canyon Star Restaurant and Saloon offered a happy hour that included half-price appetizers. After spending a lot on the trip to the Grand Canyon, I was glad to be able to save a little money and not have to leave the hotel for some decently priced food.
