Florida Camping Review

Florida Camping Review
From local and state parks to private campgrounds, Florida has no shortage of scenic and natural places to camp. Common features of Florida campgrounds include public restroom and shower facilities, grilling areas and electric and water hookups for RVs. More than that, the scenic beauty is immense, with national forests and national parks dotting the landscape, and hundreds of miles of coastline, making for very memorable and outstanding camping experiences.

Wows and Woes

The best thing about camping in Florida is the ability to get away from it all. Even with a metropolitan area 10 miles away, it can still feel like a great wilderness. Finding a camping spot near the beach and watching the sunset--there's nothing better.

The heat when tent camping can make it quite uncomfortable. Tents can stay hot and humid throughout the entire night. Also, camping in Florida tends to be a bit pricier than in many other states.

Insider Tips

To deal with the heat in the tent, your best bet is to keep as much airflow moving through the tent as possible. If you have electric hookup at the tent site, use a fan. Make sure the rain fly is down when the weather is nice, but keep it close by. Storms in Florida can pop up very quickly.

Bottom Line

Though the heat much of the year may discourage many from camping in Florida, overall the experience can be enjoyable. An ocean or pool offers welcomed relief from the heat.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

Camping near a lake at Wekiwa Springs State Park and being the first one at the shoreline in the morning made for a great memory. The water was as still as glass and the only disturbance was the sound of my lure breaking the water's surface. Being that close to natural attractions is the greatest benefit camping in Florida offers.
