Cancun Snorkeling Review

Cancun Snorkeling Review
Cancun is a water lovers paradise, and two of the best areas to snorkel are Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. Isla Mujeres is less known but a tropical underwater dream. Just a 45-minute boat ride from Cancun, you can swim out to a sandbar, don your snorkels and dunk your head underwater to see streams of colorful fish. Cozumel lends itself to the more experienced snorkeler or diver, with daily boats taking people out to the Caribbean to watch the sea life.

Wows and Woes

Fish can be seen at knee level, which is perfect for kids or people who are not the best swimmers.

Cancun is filled with bad snorkeling cruises looking to make a buck by taking you to places you can swim out to on your own.

Insider Tips

Take a small bag of peas or bread and attract fish of all colors to swim around your feet.

Bottom Line

The Caribbean Sea off the coast of Cancun is arguably comparable to the Great Barrier Reef for snorkeling and should not be missed.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

I'm a picky snorkeler having grown up in Hawaii. When it comes to sea life, there are few colors of the rainbow I haven't experienced from underwater, except gray. I've seen plenty of gray at a distance because in Hawaii that means shark. It means the same in Cancun, but this was a baby shark that just brushed up against my leg and swam away before I knew it.
