Grand Canyon Train Review

Grand Canyon Train Review
The Grand Canyon Railway is ideal for families and first traveled to the South Rim in 1901. It still brings visitors there from Williams, Arizona, about 90 miles to the south for views, entertainment and a knowledgeable guide. There is live entertainment, food and beverages, and various rail cars for different views and atmospheres.

Wows and Woes

It is a reliable form of guided tours since it is open every day besides Christmas Eve and Christmas. There are two dining options, Spenser's Pub and the Grand Depot Cafe. The four rail car sections are the parlor class, observation dome (the two most expensive options), coach and first class. The rail cars are easy to find and board since each car is named, but for those who are in a hurry, the train travels pretty slow and doesn't allow a lot of exploration time at stops.

Insider Tips

Book a hotel package with the railway to save money. There are four hotels to choose from. If it is your birthday, you get a free coach ticket to ride the train. AAA provides discounts to the train, and if you are a family with a member who has a disability, this is the best way to reach the Grand Canyon.

Bottom Line

Booking a train and hotel package at the railway provides you with the best deal for your money, especially in a large group or family.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

There is a staged robbery on the train as part of the live entertainment, which is fun and unexpected. For some, it might seem like a nuisance, but children enjoy it, as well as the live musical entertainers that go from rail car to rail car.
