Fort Wilderness Campground Review

Fort Wilderness Campground Review
The only campground located within the Walt Disney Resort, Fort Wilderness is set on 700 acres and has an "American Frontier" theme, complete with trading post and pioneer hall. Canals and trails run throughout the nearly 800 campsites, and deer and rabbits make the occasional appearance. On-site amenities include a grocery store, laundry facilities, babysitting services and a kennel.

Wows and Woes

The location makes Fort Wilderness ideal for park hopping. Patrons are entitled to the same benefits as visitors at other Disney resorts, including free transportation to the parks and Extra Magic Hours, which gets you into the parks early along with other Disney resort guests.
The early park hours combined with the free transportation can cause a bit of a backup during high seasons. If you utilize the free transportation to get to the parks, you might have to wait, which can cut into those extra hours before you even make it to the parks.

Insider Tips

Most people at Fort Wilderness are there for the theme parks, but there are several events and activities that take place at the campground, including a barbecue with Disney characters and a Chip 'n' Dale sing-along that is followed by a classic Disney movie each night.

Bottom Line

While prices are steep in comparison with other area campgrounds, staying at Fort Wilderness is the cheapest way to stay on Disney property.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

That first morning at Fort Wilderness, we were all set to be some of the first people to walk through the gates at Magic Kingdom, but the lines for the buses were long. So we hiked it over to the Settlement Depot to catch the boat and only had to wait once.
