Review of Snowshoe Resorts

Review of Snowshoe Resorts
Snowshoe Mountain is a West Virginia ski resort that offers lodging options from hotels to mountain chalets. The resort is divided into six neighborhoods: Mountain Base, North Mountain, South Mountain, Silver Creek, West Ridge and Village Central. A shuttle can take you to the different neighborhoods. Activities at the resort include golfing, skiing, mountain biking, fishing and hiking. Village Central is home to restaurants, shops, a grocery store, a spa and salon, a chapel and night clubs. Hotel amenities include a swimming pool, fitness center, gift shop, restaurant and bar.

Wows and Woes

Red Rover restaurant has a Wii that guests can play on weekdays while waiting for the food to arrive at the table.
Cell phone coverage is non-existent at the Snowshoe Resort, and calling fees are high.
The breakfast at Shaver Center is a standard continental breakfast similar to a Holiday Inn Express and not up to resort standards.
There is a grocery store at the resort, but the prices are incredibly expensive. Do not expect to save a lot of money by cooking your own meals unless you bring food with you into the resort.

Insider Tips

Bring a calling card for any phone calls that you might want to make.
The Rimfire Condos in the Village Central neighborhood are located right by the ski lifts.
To get a great view of the sunset over the mountains while dining, go the Foxfire restaurant.

Bottom Line

With so many lodging options and even more amenities, you can't go wrong with Snowshoe Mountain Resort for a Mid-Atlantic ski vacation. Plus, there's rarely a wait for the lifts.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

Learning to ski and going out for the first time at Snowshoe Mountain Resort was amazing. The teachers were great and really made the learning fun. But being able to do the nighttime skiing with my friends really made the trip for me, as it seemed so special to be skiing under the stars.
