Wows and Woes
Take a trip to the Castillo de San Felipe del Morro at sunset to enjoy the breathtaking view from the top of the fortress. Do prepare for intense temperatures with high humidity by packing sunscreen and light colored clothes. The rain forest is very prone to insects, so remember to pick up bug spray before embarking on a hiking adventure in town where it is available for a much cheaper rate.
Insider Tips
Despite the small size of the island, plan to spend several days in Puerto Rico to indulge in some of the many outdoor activities. Rather than going off on your own, take guided tours through the rain forest and when rock climbing. Acampa, an eco-adventure tour company provides guests with waterfall climbing, hiking and zip line tours with knowledgeable tour guides.
Bottom Line
Puerto Rico is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Allow several days to truly explore the island. Make sure you travel prepared to spend a lot of time outdoors.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
The best part of my trip to Puerto Rico was one of the tours that I took hiking to the top of the highest mountain on the island. I climbed to the top with my tour guide and then zip lined down the mountain. It was a truly exhilarating experience.
