Quarryville

Quarryville is the only significant town in southern Lancaster County, and the surrounding area offers great bicycling. Amish families live on many of the farms, and because they travel in buggies, traffic is generally quite light. Quarryville took its name from the many quarries in the area. The limestone that makes the soil rich also makes good stone building. Tourists have discovered the other Amish areas of Lancaster County, but the southern end is far off the paths of most visitors. From June until October the predominant feature of the landscape is corn. It covers thousands of acres, and at times it's all that you can see as you ride along. In good years it towers above even the tallest people. The covered bridge on this ride offers some interesting pictures in hot weather, when cows and horses gather under it to get out of the sun. The road surface is good.
