Aspotogan Rail Trail - Hubbards Nova Scotia Hikes

This path follows the abandoned rail line on the South Shore between Hubbards and East River, cutting across the top of the Aspotogan Peninsula. I think bicyclists will most enjoy it. The improved gravel surface is wonderful for them. Families will find this an easy walk because it is nearly level throughout. Birders should also enjoy this walk. There is a large burn area that is regenerating and it is a wonderful breeding ground for many species. Naturalists may be eager to observe the rare slender leaf goldenrod, which can be found in a large boggy area right in the middle of the trail. Heritage enthusiasts might take interest in the fact that the trail incorporates the original granite culverts constructed 100 years ago for the railroad. Some of the railroad mile marker signs can also be spotted.
