David Lester thought he knew what he was getting when he purchased his Brand Road property above the Schoharie Valley. He thought he was buying the highest part of the county. "Yup," Lester said, pushing aside some brush to show me a marker on his land on Oak Ridge in the county's south-central Town of Charleston. "I liked the view." Lester pointed out some of the sights—off in the distance to the south were the Catskill Mountains and closer, about nine miles as the crow flies, the city of Schoharie. "That's Terrace Mountain right there. See how it's terraced?" he said. You could make out distant towers on other high ground. But you didn't have to look far to see such sights. Oak Ridge has several TV and radio towers on Lester's land and next door. Quinn Rd. The county highpoint is on private property. An alternate summit hike is provided in the eTrail.
