Lakeshore Park / Seneca Lake State Park Trail - Geneva New York Mountain Bike Trails

Seneca Lake is named after the Seneca Indian Nation, one of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. The Senecas inhabited these shores long before white settlers arrived. Seneca Lake is 36 miles long and 632 feet deep at its deepest spot, which makes it the deepest and second longest of the eleven Finger Lakes (Cayuga Lake is 38 miles long). Holding more than four trillion gallons of water, Seneca Lake is the largest Finger Lake. Because of its volume, Seneca Lake rarely freezes in winter. The water moderates the temperature of the surrounding land and makes the area prime for vineyards and orchards. Seneca Lake State Park was brush, trees, and marsh until 1922, when the city of Geneva developed it into a park. Title was passed to New York State in 1957. The route described incorporates the paths through Lakeshore Park and Seneca Lake State Park. You’ll walk or ride along the lakeshore, shaded by large willow trees. Bring a picnic, there’s plenty of picnic tables and grills to enjoy a lake-side meal. The entire route is paved, but sections in Seneca Lake State Park are somewhat rough for in-line skating. Surface: Paved.
