Tunnel of Trees Cruise - Petoskey Michigan Road Bike Rides

The Tunnel of Trees is an 18-mile stretch of blufftop state highway overlooking Lake Michigan. This section of Michigan Highway 119, as it is more practically known, is designated as a state Heritage Route for its scenic beauty. In terms of biking, it is one of Michigan's and the Midwest's best-known rides. The ride begins just south of Harbor Springs, a town whose huge summer ?cottages? in the exclusive associations along Little Traverse Bay are a Midwestern version of Newport, Rhode Island. Once out of Harbor Springs, however, you?ll be in rural territory. There's a 4-mile stretch of hills mid-ride, between Harbor Springs and the Tunnel of Trees. As the route is out and back once it reaches the Tunnel, riders can choose to increase or decrease the distance. Riding at least to Good Hart is recommended. Terrain: Flat to start. Four-mile section of hills outside Harbor Springs. One of the tougher cruises in this book. Small rollers on the Tunnel of Trees.
