Cooper Spur - Hood River Oregon Snowshoe Trails

Here’s another trip on Mount Hood’s east side that can either be a grueling push from freezing level or an exhilarating jaunt from a camp at Cloud Cap. You will travel way into the alpine backcountry of Mount Hood here. From the top of Cooper Spur, the flanks of Mount Hood look steep. But I’ve been on several trips to “the Spur” and invariably someone will declare that it looks like a “hop, skip, and a jump” to the summit from there. In reality, you’re 2,700 feet and many terrifying rope lengths from the summit. Best to admire it from the relative safety of Cooper Spur.
