Squaw Mountain Fire Lookout

OutAndBack • 3 mi • 866 ft

This half-day trek to the Squaw Mountain Fire Lookout Tower is not far from downtown Denver and offers a great panorama at the top. However, the wide road to the top is steep in spots, and the upper section of this outing is often windblown with little snow cover. If you need to remove your skis or snowshoes near the summit, the walk up to the fire lookout tower will provide scenic rewards. The best time to try this outing is after a recent local snowfall.

Enjoyable "walk" up the road to the Fire Lookout - normally accessible to vehicles, the road was "snowbound" . Good for cross country skis or snowshoes. The summit was spectacular - great views in all directions. See my pictures. Dennis
