Lizard Head Pass

OutAndBack • 7.5 mi • 0 ft

The trail begins at Lizard Head Pass and follows the old Denver and Rio Grande Railroad bed. The tracks have long since disappeared, but the railroad bed is still there and provides an easy-to-follow route from the pass back down through Lizard Head Meadows. There are good views to the north of Trout Lake as you ski or snowshoe in and out of timber stands. This area is popular with snowmobilers, so expect to find some noise and traffic. Surface quality: Ungroomed but usually well tracked by skiers and snowshoers.
