Old Monarch Pass

Various • 21 mi • 0 ft

Old Monarch Pass offers great snow conditions and an opportunity to practice every sort of skiing or snowshoeing. If you only want to ski for half a day, just head out from the trailhead for 1.5 miles to the top of Old Monarch Pass. You’ll see an open park that’s great for mastering flat-track techniques. The trail is rated easy to moderate and lined with giant pines and conifer trees. If you want to try out powder or cut some telemark turns, head up the small peak to the south of the old pass and carve your way down to the park. For those who might want the challenge of an all-day tour, just continue down the west side of the pass for 9 miles of gliding or downhill snowshoeing above No Name Creek. At the bottom, you’ll be glad to see the shuttle vehicle you parked there to save the long haul back up the hill. Surface quality: Ungroomed but usually well-tracked by skiers. Avalanche danger: Low to moderate.
