Great snowshoe hike. The final approach to the lake is challenging, and the weather is nearly uniformly bad by noon--start early and finish early! The lake is a wonderland in winter--surrounded in a bowl by the Nokhu Crags. some rockfall off the rims onto the lake, but mostly good terrain. Unless avalanche danger is extreme it is easier to get to and from the lake up a steep drainage from the lake that begins east of the older cabin that is no longer used. A trip that is well worth the effort.

Parking area off the highway is limited and windy. Initial grade for the 1st mi. or so is modest. Then the grade steepens. Snowshoes or skis w/ skins recommended. The cabin is located in a bowl. Great place if you're into backcountry skiing. Be prepared for a good climb and watch out for avalanches.
