Ice Lake

OutAndBack • 15.6 mi • 0 ft

Most of the best things in life require effort, and hiking into Ice Lake certainly fits that rule. This is a long, tough climb. But the payoff is terrific: filled with fish and nestled in an alpine wonderland beneath bulky, multi-colored mountains, Ice Lake is close to the perfect mountain lake. Unfortunately, a significant number of other folks agree with this assessment, so despite the long access trail, the camps here are often crowded. For those with an extra day to spend exploring, the climb from Ice Lake up the Matterhorn is highly recommended and extremely rewarding.

It's a tough climb, but well worth it! Gorgeous lake! I had heard how crowded it always is, but it wasn't at all when we were there.
