Double Eagle Mine and Devils Lakes - Granite Falls Washington Hikes

The Deer Creek area in Mount Baker–Snoqualmie National Forest was once an active mining area in the Monte Cristo district. The Deer Creek Road leads to several interesting sites, including Deer Creek Pass and Kelcema Lake. Lesser-known points of interest are Double Eagle Mine and Devils Lakes, which can be reached by an old road and abandoned trail by hikers with navigational skills. The road (sometimes referred to as Double Eagle Road in old trail guides) is not drivable, but can be walked to its end, where a rough trail takes off to the lakes. Save the mine, waterfall, and lakes until summer to enjoy the area’s history and solitude. This old road also makes a good snowshoe trip in the winter, offering solitude because most snowshoers and skiers are bound for popular Kelcema Lake. This is one of the more challenging hikes in this guide. Double Eagle Mine and a spectacular waterfall at 3 miles are enough of a destination for most hikers, but scramblers can continue beyond the falls to Devils Lakes, which are set between Devils Peak and Devils Thumb north of Silverton.
