Big Craggy Peak and West Craggy Peak - Winthrop Washington Climbs

The Craggys are a lofty and jagged twosome standing as watchdogs at the southern border of the Pasayten Wilderness. The higher of the two, Big Craggy, sports a heterogeneous northern face mixed with steep rock gullies and cliffs. In contrast, its south side manifests a middle-of-the-road, mellow scree slope. Equally as rough, West Craggy emanates an elevated ridge that extends north to Eightmile Peak. The Craggys represent the quintessential Pasayten trip with far-reaching vast spaces expanding to rocky panoramas under gleaming skies. The terrain is honest, straightforward, and guileless. Roam free and unrestricted in this welcoming land to view miles of broad valleys and open ridges. Carry plenty of water and start early before the sun gets hot. This is big-scale country at its best. Big Craggy and West Craggy are best accomplished in 1 lengthy day, with a car camp the night before. But the trip described here is for parties who wish to extend the wilderness delight to enjoy good camping at Copper Glance Lake, beneath the cliffs of Isabella Ridge and 8204-foot Sherman Peak. A patch of water that by itself might scarcely be considered worth the walk, Copper Glance Lake is the portal to spectacular scenery and expansive meadows that reward the sweat of the steep approach.
