Remmel Mountain - Winthrop Washington Climbs

High in the Pasayten Wilderness just south of the Canadian boundary, Remmel Mountain is nearly in the middle of the rugged land where neither roads nor even motor powered saws to clear the trails are permitted. Remmel is one of the most colossal and exceptional mountains in the Okanogan Range. The immense hulk displays multiple cirques to the east with scenic alpine lakes. Nevertheless, Remmel is basically a trail trip, as a rudimentary path leads almost all the way to the summit, thus requiring minimal cross-country rambling in high, open country. But the area is so lovely, the views so outstanding, and the feeling of solitude and remoteness so great, that a visit to Remmel is gratifying. The best time to scale the peak is at sunset, when the trudge up the talus slope leads to a serene respite at the very tiptop.
