Yellow Aster Butte - Glacier Washington Climbs

Yellow Aster Butte is a favorite late season scramble when the hills are luminous with the brazen hues of autumn. If the time is right, a party can heartily graze on ripe huckleberries. The trip to Yellow Aster Butte is delightful and easy, with beautiful small tarns and lakelets dotting the countryside. Tomyhoi Peak, American Border Peak, and Mount Larrabee stand nearby, while the jagged peaks of Canada and formidable Baker and Shuksan tower farther on. In late season a trail is present nearly to the summit. Yellow Aster Butte therefore makes a gentle trip when time is short or the party is less experienced. The old Keep Kool Trail once led to the butte, but was subject to severe erosion. Now a newer trailhead leaves from the same starting point as the Tomyhoi Lake Trail farther down the spur road.
