Church Mountain - Glacier Washington Climbs

Positioned between Canyon Creek to the north and North Fork Nooksack River to the south, Church Mountain rises from an elevation of 1200 feet at the river to its highest point in less than 2 miles. The abandoned lookout near the top is a popular trail trip, but the summit farther on is an even lovelier viewpoint that encompasses the meandering Fraser River valley and the dazzling glaciers of Mount Baker. Early settlers named the mountain for its spire appearance. Primarily a trail trip, the final scramble to the summit is moderate when the proper course is unveiled, but dicey and forbidding if the party wanders off the route. Hikers who are not familiar with off-trail travel can stop at the lookout site to soak in the views, while the scramblers forge on to the summit and back.
