Golden Lakes Loop

Loop • 23 mi • 4200 ft

The Enchantment Lakes have gained such wide and well-deserved fame that the Forest Service has adopted a long list of do’s and don’ts to preserve the quality of the land and the recreational experience. Trembling on the brink of comparable fame is the Golden Lakes Loop through miles of meadows, past five lakes and looks down to three others, and to ridge tops with views from the Columbia Plateau to the Cascade Crest. The trip is a glory in summer, the grass lushly green and the flowers many-colored. In fall it’s absolutely mystical, the larch trees turned to gold, giving the name by which this tour of High Sierra–like “gentle wilderness” is becoming a legend.
