San Antonio Mission Trail - San Antonio Texas Hikes

Stroll between two historic missions along the historic San Antonio Mission Trail. Visit the remains of these cultural centers of the past and enjoy the surprisingly lush trail that connects them. The San Antonio Missions National Historic Park consists of a chain of four missions along the San Antonio River—San Jose, San Juan, Espada, and Concepcion. These structures, in conjunction with the Alamo, form the oldest chain of Catholic missions in North America. Originally lured here by rumors of wealth and the encroaching French from Louisiana, the Spaniards established these missions in east Texas hoping to take advantage of the local riches. Failing this, they set about converting the locals to Catholicism.
