Sugarloaf Ridge State Park: Mount Hood Trail - Kenwood California Hikes

Many of the tallest peaks in North Bay are traversed by well-graded roads and topped with communication tow- ers—not so Mt. Hood. The only way to reach its 2730-foot summit is via steep and rugged trails, making this the most difficult—but in many ways the most rewarding— summit hike covered in this guide. Using the Goodspeed Trail from Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, this out-and-back route leaves a wooded canyon, rises through forest and chaparral, and crosses steep, wildflower-dotted hillsides exposed to sun and wind. The best views are from Gunsight Rock, just below the mountain’s summit.
