A great hike - both me and my dog loved it. Plenty of water, and gorgeous views! You don't meet up with the gorge trail until about mile 4. Go early, the trail fills up later in the day. I started at 6am and started seeing people on the way down at about 9am (a lot of people). You can even go further on this trail and make it an overnight. I am planning on doing this at some point.

Beautiful hike! This trail has a variety of scenery, from a forest of trees to open meadows and to awesome views of the Gore Range. The first half of the hike does have a lot of bugs/mosquitos, so make sure you bring your deet. This time of year, there were a lot of variety of wildflowers and it was absolutely gorgeous! the hike from the alpine meadow to the pass is not that bad at all. I didn't go to Red Buffalo pass, just did Eccles. Amazing views of Red Peak and you can see the trail that goes over Eccles and towards Red Buffalo. If you forget your deet, then just keep walking and swing those arms! (which is what i ended up doing and i only got one little bug bite)
