The Never Summer Range lives up to its name with abundant snow well into late season on this tour. The Zimmerman Lake Trailhead is the busiest one in the Cameron Pass area, as it includes several choices of trails at all experience levels. The trail to the lake sees the heaviest use, as it is more moderate than the Montgomery Pass Trail; and it quickly moves away from the noise of the highway, unlike some of the other choices. Another reason for its popularity is that there is usually abundant snow on it well into late season, due to its position on the shady, north side of the Never Summer Range. This loop trail around Zimmerman Lake provides some good downhill areas for skiers and is best done clockwise.
