From the base at Silvermine Lake to the peaks of Black Mountain, this 6.5-mile loop hike offers a bit of everything for hikers and their trail companions. Dug by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, Silvermine Lake—like most lakes in Harriman State Park—was made by hardworking men and filled via the creation of a dam. Also along this hike is the notable Spanish Mine whose history tells of a group of Spanish men who came every year to mine the northern side of Black Mountain. Although the mine was never located after it was abandoned in the mid-1700s, the tales of events in that area still raise curiosity to this day.
