Mount Chocorua

Loop • 7.5 mi • 2600 ft

Mount Chocorua (pronounced Chu-CORE-ooh-a) is a popular peak at the eastern end of the Sandwich Range, south of the Kancamagus Highway. Often photographed from the shores of Chocorua Lake in Tamworth, this peak is the first large mountain seen by travelers approaching the White Mountains from the south on NH 16. You can reach the 3,500-foot-high summit from just about any direction, but any hike of Chocorua involves significant elevation gain. It is worth the climb, though, as the bare summit dome of Chocorua provides excellent 360-degree views.
