Appalachian Trail: Fox Gap to Delaware Water Gap - Stroudsburg Pennsylvania Hikes

The footing on this 7.2-mile section of Kittatinny Mountain is sharp and jagged and rough, like much of the rest of the AT through northern Pennsylvania. But how can you not like a hike that passes Lunch Rocks, the most hospitable named chunk of quartzite on the ridge? It gives hikers something to look forward to for at least half the day. Lunch Rocks overlook does not appear on hiking maps of the area, but it is listed as a destination on the informational kiosk erected by the Wilmington Trail Club. The trail crosses the cross-mountain blacktop directly from he parking area and descends gently through a young-to-middle-aged woods of maple and oak to the kiosk, which also provides information about Pennsylvania's hunting seasons, emergency phone numbers, and water filtration advice (jut do it). It should also be noted that water can be scarce along this trail section, especially in late summer or during dry spells, so it's best to tote a good supply even though this hike is relatively short. Natural history features: Fox Gap; Mount Minsi; Lake Lenape; Delaware Water Gap. Other feature: Profile of Chief Tammany on mountain across from Winona Cliff.
