Van Hoevenberg Trail - Lake Placid New York Hikes

This demanding all-day or overnight hike arriving from the north offers the shortest approach to Mount Marcy, at 5,344 the highest point in New York State. Special Attractions: spectacular High Peaks panorama, rare arctic alpine habitat, wildlife, scenic brooks, lake, lean-tos, visitor information center. Adirondack Loj charges for parking; its lots sometimes fill in summer. Expect a rock scramble for the final .5 mile to the summit. Come prepared for chill winds and cool summit temperatures, and be alert to weather changes. Camp only at the lean-tos or designated tent sites, properly storing food away from bears. Camping and fires above 4,000 feet are prohibited. Find privies near the camp areas.
