Fourth Connecticut Lake - Berlin New Hampshire Hikes

There aren’t many New Hampshire hikes farther north than this one. The trail to the Fourth Connecticut Lake follows the erratic course of the United States/Canada border, a boundary established by the same 1842 treaty that squelched the local Indian Stream Republic, the ultimate attempt at Yankee independence. The logic that inscribed this irregular line along a watershed boundary is lost on hikers today, as the route weaves up and around rocky woodlands to the source of the Connecticut River. Special attractions: The headwaters of the Connecticut River, an international boundary, and possible wildlife viewing.
