North Moat Mountain

Loop • 8.9 mi • 2650 ft

A sharply chiseled ridgeline that parallels Main Street west of North Conway, the Moat Mountain Range displays a scruffy, thread-bare look thanks to a blend of bald rock and stunted trees that covers its upper reaches. Rising more than a thousand feet on the eastern flanks of this rugged ridge, the stark walls of Cathedral Ledge and White Horse Ledge make the Moats even more imposing. Little wonder that few hikers venture beyond Diana's Baths, a popular swimming hole, just 0.6 mile from a trailhead at the north end of the range.

Easy hike for the first 2 miles, once past halfway the trail gets very steep and is a difficult climb. The views at the top are great! Hiked with 10 boy scouts aged 10-13, and they all made it with no problem. At a fast pace we made it from the parking lot to the top in 2hours 40 minutes.

I did this trail with my wife and we loved it. There is really a nice walk through the woods to get from the parking lot to the base of the mountain. You will cross bridges and only have a minimal incline. Once you get to the mountain itself it starts getting steep, but nothing too bad. The trail up has a few views, but the top is the best. As mentioned, there are 360 degree views from the top, with a fantastic view of Mount Washington. This is a great day hike!
