Delphi Canal Trails - Delphi Indiana Hikes

This is a loop trail, with short spurs at the beginning and end of the hike. These interconnecting trails provide a glimpse of a bygone era, when farm products and other goods were transported over the Wabash & Erie Canal. The canal was a system of locks built between 1832 and 1863 to link Lake Erie to Evansville. The 468-mile stretch from Fort Wayne to Evansville was the largest manmade structure in the country at the time, and its construction and operation plunged the state into bankruptcy. Special Attractions: access to a remnant section of the historic Wabash & Erie Canal.
