Switchgrass Marsh and Tree Trails at Salamonie Reservoir - Huntington Indiana Hikes

This is a double-loop trail, first through a marsh meadow, then a forest, and then back to the marsh meadow. In 1961, construction began on Salamonie Reservoir, part of a three-stage U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood-control project in the Upper Wabash Valley. Salamonie is situated between Roush Lake to the northeast and Mississinewa Reservoir to the southwest. The $17 million earth-fill dam at Salamonie became operational in 1966, and created a lake that at its fullest is 17 miles long. Special Attractions: the viewing area at Switchgrass Marsh, and identifying markers for about 50 native Indian trees.
