Heron Rookery Trail - Chesterton Indiana Hikes

This is a linear trail along the Little Calumet River with a stop at a heron rockery site. Herons are stork-like wading birds with long legs and pointed bills. There are about 50 species of herons worldwide, and the great blue heron is the largest American variety. An adult great blue heron stands 4 feet tall and has a 7 foot wingspan.
