Nubanusit Lake and Spoonwood Pond - Hancock New Hampshire Water Trails

Spoonwood Pond is well protected, inaccessible by car and off-limits to motorboats. Like Nubanusit, Spoonwood has a rocky shoreline, and in some places giant slabs of granite extend down to and into the water. Large crystals of feldspar, mica, and garnet, along with iron deposits, poke out of the granite, making it look almost like a conglomerate rock. From Spoonwood Pond, you can hike through heavily wooded, rocky terrain on Cabot “Island” (not really an island), owned by Keene State College. You can cross over to the southern end of Nubanusit Lake if you want to watch motorboats, or you can stick to the eastern side of the lake and hike on wilderness land managed by the Harris Center.
