Midway River - Esko Minnesota Whitewater Kayaking Routes

The Midway is a short, rocky run with several challenging rapids. The river runs through some riffles from the beginning, but the first class II drop occurs not far below Interstate 35. At one point, the river splits around a rocky island, the right half going over a narrow, rocky, uninviting drop. Take the left channel, which drops more gradually. The surprise is a 5-foot-high falls right before the reservoir. The river runs through a boulder-bed pitch before narrowing to about 6 feet and plunging over a nearly vertical ledge. Watch out for a big hole in high water.
