North Fork New River: Ashe CR 1119 Bridge at Community of Maxwell to Ashe CR 1549 Below the Confluence with the South Fork - Clifton South Carolina Whitewater Kayaking Routes

The North Fork heads up in the extreme western end of Ashe County just over the Tennessee line. It flows northeast in the shadows of The Peak, Three Top Mountain, and Phoenix Mountain on the south before confluencing with the South Fork and forming the New River. It is primarily a stream of shallow ledges with an occasional gravel bar through its upper reaches. Then it flattens out to where it presents a few riffles and a ledge now and then. River access is quite easy with roads following along it for most of the distance. This also means a pastoral landscape through most sections.
