This strenuous two-day loop tour follows the Elkhorn Scenic Byway, takes you through the majestic forested Elkhorn Mountains of northeast Oregon, and drops into the desert valley surrounding Baker City. The route then travels along the banks of the scenic Powder River past Phillips Reservoir back to your starting point at Sumpter Valley Dredge State Park. On this tour you’ll be able to explore the Sumpter Dredge at Sumpter Valley Dredge State Park, stay overnight at scenic Anthony Lake, explore the historical buildings in Haines and Baker City, enjoy the dramatic river canyon carved by the Powder River, and go swimming at Phillips Reservoir.
