Prineville–Painted Hills Classic

This tough route takes you into the heart of Oregon’s outback. You’ll begin in downtown Prineville and head east on US 26, which takes you on a challenging 1,800- foot climb through the Ochoco Mountains and Ochoco National Forest. After a fast descent you’ll pedal into the fascinating Painted Hills country of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, where you can view beautiful multicolored hills and explore fascinating fossil beds. After your tour of the national monument, you have the option of spending the night in Mitchell or camping at Ochoco Divide Summit Campground on your return trip to Prineville.
