Smith Rock State Park–Sisters Challenge

Loop • 89.9 mi • 0 ft

Explore the magnificent volcano country of central Oregon on this challenging, scenic route. This tour begins in Smith Rock State Park and takes you southwest on rural roads to the small western-style town of Sisters, which is filled with fun shops, restaurants, and beautiful alpine scenery. From Sisters you’ll climb steeply on the McKenzie Highway to a spectacular viewpoint of the central Oregon Cascades at Dee Wright Observatory. From the observatory you’ll have a fast and thrilling descent back to Sisters, then you’ll head east on OR 126 toward Redmond. Along this part of the route, you’ll pass through beautiful high-desert scenery and have the opportunity to explore Cline Falls State Park next to the Deschutes River. You’ll complete the loop by riding north on rural roads back to the town of Terrebonne, then end the route at Smith Rock State Park.
