Columbia River Highway East Cruise

OutAndBack • 37.8 mi • 0 ft

This ride takes you on a scenic journey on the Historic Columbia River Highway through the magnificent Columbia River Gorge. It begins in historic Hood River and heads east toward Gorge Discovery Center in The Dalles. The first 4.6 miles are open to bikers and pedestrians only and offer many viewpoints of the cliff-lined gorge, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams, as well as the opportunity to explore the restored Mosier Twin Tunnels. As you continue east you’ll pass through the small town of Mosier. The route then travels uphill through cherry orchards to the Memaloose Overlook and Rowena Crest Viewpoint. From the Rowena Crest Viewpoint, you’ll have a sweeping descent down hairpin curves to a straightaway that takes you past Mayer State Park and through the small community of Rowena to your turnaround point at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Wasco County Historical Museum in The Dalles. Be sure to start this route early in the day so you can have time to explore the informative displays at this one-of-a-kind interpretive center.

Excellent ride for people who want a safe (no cars on the road), easy, and scenic ride. Great for children! And the length is perfect, you get a descent workout but don't end up exhausted.
