Crater Lake Cruise

Loop • 33 mi • 2900 ft

Crater Lake is a spectacular jewel set in the volcanic caldera (cone) of Mount Mazama in south-central Oregon. The lake water is a deep blue, changing shades as the sun changes its angle in the sky. This ride is extremely exhilarating and challenging. Although only 33 miles in length, the road encircling the rim is a series of steep climbs and descents, sweeping up and down more than 800 feet. The views are equally outstanding, from Wizard Island to the numerous fascinating geologic formations, including cinder cones and lava flows of various sizes and colors. Terrain: there is a little flat surface on the Rim Drive. Inclines average 5%. Roads are relatively narrow but generally in good repair.

I was recoomended by one of the park rangers to start at the ranger station on the south side of the lake. I did this and was glad I did , as I start with a climb right at the, not at the finish

This is a very nice ride, I actually did it as the The Crater Lake Rim Ride event, a 100 miler. The ride around the Rim is very scenic with lots of view points to stop for pictures or to take a break. It is pretty hilly but you can break up the longer hills with veiw stops. Take your time, enjoy the veiws and I think most will do just fine.
