Charlottesville Challenge

The Charlottesville Challenge is a scenic, moderately hilly ride through the Albemarle County countryside known locally as “Mr. Jefferson’s Country.” Based in Charlottesville, the challenge follows the National Bike Route 76 as it rolls west toward the Blue Ridge, offering fantastic vistas at the crest of each hill. Reaching but not climbing the Blue Ridge, the challenge takes a turn and explores the pastoral paradise south of Charlottesville. Several hundred years ago, this desirable region attracted the likes of Jefferson and Monroe. Today, it still draws the rich and famous, as a number of entertainers and authors now live here. The challenge then sneaks you in the back door to Charlottesville, directly through Thomas Jefferson’s “academic village,” the University of Virginia. Terrain: Moderately hilly. Designed for the stronger cyclist.
