Big Basin Redwoods State Park

Big Basin State Park is the home of some of the most majestic redwoods in the state and has long been enjoyed by South Bay Area residents for its extensive hiking, camping, and picnicking. The 15,000-acre park is located on the western slope of the Santa Cruz Mountains and extends all the way to the sea, at Waddell Creek. Logging was done here until 1902, when the area was established as the California Redwoods Park. Today you can see the stumps of many of the original redwoods surrounded by second-growth trees which are rapidly reclaiming the forest. The ride through Big Basin Redwoods State Park is along wide fire roads with some bumps but no technically difficult sections. There is plenty of climbing, but the presence of much shade along the way makes this ride comfortable even on hot summer days.
