The Anthills / Terry Hershey Park - Houston Texas Mountain Bike Trails

I had been dragging around Houston for a couple of days, riding a bunch of stuff that I had seen before, and I fell into this place. Terry Hershey Park has some of the nicest trails in Texas. Not the hardest, not the longest, but some of the most relaxing. In one afternoon, I completely fell in love with this place. All you are going to do is wander Buffalo Bayou from around Eldridge Parkway east to just beyond Wilcrest Drive and back. It is all single-track carved out of the banks of the bayou. There can be considerable sand, and there are always lots of tree roots, but you won’t find any long climbs. What you will find is some easy, wide riding on white sand, and then some more energetic stuff with lots of up and down, tight in the trees on redder sand. The eastern end of this trail is definitely the most fun for most riders. You can practice some gnarly maneuvers, catch some air, and even break a sweat on the longer hills. On the western sections you can just do an ooze-along, riding along peacefully and enjoying the ambience.
